Safe Sitter

Safe Sitter is a class designed to prepare students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they are home alone, staying home with younger siblings, or babysitting in the community.  

Our instructors are trained to offer valuable information while offering fun filled games and role-playing exercises. 

Students will learn: 

  • Safety Skills - Students learn how to stay safe at home, what to do in incliment weather, power failures, or other safety emergencies.
  • Child Development - Students will learn how to care for the young children and the needs of different age groups students will be responisible for while babysitting. Practice skills such as feeding, diaper changing, and ideas of how to keep the younger child entertained while babysitting. Students will learn important information to gather from parents before they leave to best care for the child. 
  • CPR & First Aid - Students will learn the life saving skill of CPR for children and infants.  Students will learn how to assess and respond to injuries and illnesses. 
  • Life & Business Skills - Students will learn how to screen a job, how to accept and reject, and the conversation about wages for babysitting. 

Class typically lasts 5 hours, including breaks and lunch.  The last 30 minutes of the class is reserved for a graduation ceremony for parents/guaridans can join to learn what the students have learned and pledge to help make their babysitting business a success. 

The next upcoming class is December 23, 2024 from 9 am - 3 pm.  The class fee is $35, which includes a Safe Sitter kit, a Safe Sitter book, and lunch.  Registration is limited, register early to secure your student's spot. 

Safe Sitter classes can be offered to your youth group, for example 4H, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and after school clubs as well.  

Along with Safe Sitter classes, we can offer:

1. Safe@Home - a 90 minute class for students in grades 4-6 to prepare to be safe when they are home alone. Students learn how to take care of themselves for short periods of time, practice safe habits, prevent unsafe situation, and what to do in an emergency like weather emergencies. 

2. Grandparents: Getting Started - Childcare guidelines grow and evlove as research continues on safety, this class goes over new recommendations for keeping their grandkids safe, including physical and emotional development.  We also review CPR, choking, first aid, and injury management.
