Wellness Challenge

An ad for a "Wellness Challenge" by Linn County Health Department, with registration details, dates, and activities included.

Join us in getting healthy for the holidays with a wellness challenge! Running October 1 - December 18th, you have 10 weeks to build habits, improve nutrition, increase physical activity, and grow in other areas of wellness all with the support and accountability from the Linn County Health Department.

Each week will come with a challenge to help you practice the new habits, and completion of the challenge will enter you to win a weekly prize.

Each week, participants will weigh in at the health department or virtually to measure their weight loss success.  The largest percentage of weight lost will win the grand prize!

We will be offering encouragement through our private Facebook group. A place to share wins, ask questions, and get new recipe ideas.  There will also be opportunities for weekly walks as a group to increase physical activity and accountability among your peers.

Interested? Stop by the Health Department for registration paperwork or contact Erin at 660-258-7281 or emain@linncohealth.org

You can also complete the following interest form:

Thank you, your submission has been received.

1.      Registration: Registration is due by September 26, 2024 to the Linn County Health Department. This includes your registration paperwork and payment of $20 for the challenge.

2.      Who is eligible: anyone ages 18 and over

3.      What does my registration include: You will get weekly weigh-ins to track and monitor over the 10 weeks. You will get weekly newsletters, which include healthy tips, recipe ideas, educational information on our topic of the week, and a weekly challenge.  Completing the weekly challenge will enter you to win a weekly prize. There will also be a grand prize winner based on percentage of weight loss after 10 weeks.

4.      When and where are weigh ins: Weigh-ins will happen at the Linn County Health Department on Wednesdays from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.  If you cannot come in for that weigh in, you can weigh in virtually. For virtual weigh ins, you will get a code word on Tuesday evenings and will need to send in a picture of your scale, with your feet on it, and the code word next to it, within 24 hours.  You should weigh in at the same place each time (always at home or always at the health department) for consistency.

5.      Do I have to weigh in each week: You are given one free pass to skip a weigh in.  If you miss two or more, you will not be eligible for the grand prize.

6.      Weekly walks: Erin will be leading group walks or indoor exercise at the Health Department (depending on weather) to help encourage physical activity and to work together as a group. These are optional, but a great opportunity to remember to stay active.

7.      Tell me more about the Facebook group:  We will have a private Facebook where we will share tips, tricks, recipe ideas, and educational content. This will be a way to all work together and encourage others. Inappropriate comments or links will not be tolerated.

8.      What are the challenges: Weekly challenges will be offered to help you create a new habit, or try something new, outside of your comfort zone. These might take a few extra minutes each week, but in order to see change, we need to make changes. To check in for these changes, you will post a picture of completing the challenge in the private Facebook group. Accommodations can be made for those without Facebook access.  At the end of the week, those who completed the challenge will be entered to win a weekly prize.
