Immunizations

Immunizations are offered for children and adults. Vaccines help your body recognize and fight these germs and protect you each time you come in contact with someone who is sick with any of these diseases.

Everyone will need to call the department and schedule an appointment. Please have your insurance card with you when you come in for your appointment. If it is for childhood vaccines and we have not seen your child before, we will need a record indicating what vaccines they have already been given.

Immunizations are given every Tuesday from 8:30am to 4:30pm with late appointments available until 6:00pm the second Tuesday and fourth Wednesday of every month.

School Immunization Requirements for Missouri

The School Immunization Requirements for Missouri change annually, please consult your school nurse or local health department for more information.
*These requirements change from year to year!

*Section 317 Changes:

As of October 1, 2012, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) implemented policy changes to vaccine purchase with section 317 funds. What this means for the Linn County Health Department is that we have to utilize the vaccine purchased with these funds as mandated by the Federal government. Therefore, we can no longer immunize fully insured children (or adults) with the vaccine provided from the state and federal government.

As a department, we now contract with VaxCare to be able to continue to offer childhood immunizations to children of the county. However, this does mean that your insurance will be billed for the vaccine. The department does not charge any additional fees, and most insurance companies cover vaccine at 100% as a preventable service.

We advise contacting your insurance company to inquire as to preventative vaccine coverage. You will not be billed by the department, nor will money be collected at the time of service.

Two Biggest Flu Vaccine Myths:

1. The shot will give me the flu…WRONG. It is not a live vaccine and cannot give you influenza.
2. Nausea and vomiting is the flu…WRONG! Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness and is not associated with nausea and vomiting.
